Many fans noticed that the young stars of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender look older in Season 2. The reason is simple. There was a long break between filming the first and second seasons.
Season 1 was filmed from November 2021 to June 2022. Season 2 did not begin filming until October 2024 and finished in March 2025. That means more than two years passed before cameras started rolling again.
The four main young actors also grew up during that time.
- Gordon Cormier (Aang): 12 during Season 1 filming, 15 during Season 2 filming.

- Kiawentiio (Katara): 15 during Season 1 filming, 18 during Season 2 filming.

- Ian Ousley (Sokka): 19 during Season 1 filming, 22 during Season 2 filming.

- Dallas Liu (Zuko): 20 during Season 1 filming, 23 during Season 2 filming.

Because the actors aged so much, the show’s creators added a time jump to the story. This helped make the characters’ older appearance feel more natural instead of pretending no time had passed.
