Pablo Escobar’s wife, Maria Victoria Henao, lived under a false identity after his death but was later arrested in 2018 on charges of money laundering.
Maria Victoria Henao was married to Pablo Escobar, the notorious Colombian drug lord and leader of the Medellín Cartel, until his death in 1993. After Escobar was killed in a shootout with Colombian National Police, Henao’s life took a dramatic turn. She fled Colombia with her two children, Juan Pablo (who later changed his name to Sebastian Marroquín) and Manuela, seeking asylum in various countries due to the fear of retaliation from her husband’s enemies and the stigma attached to the Escobar name.
The family eventually settled in Argentina, where Henao lived under the assumed name of Maria Isabel Santos Caballero. For years, she maintained a low profile, but her true identity was eventually discovered. Despite the revelation, she continued to live in Argentina, where she established a new life.
However, in 2018, Henao, along with her son Sebastian Marroquín and his wife, were arrested by Argentine authorities on charges of money laundering. They were accused of being part of a criminal network that laundered money through real estate and a café known for its association with the television series “Narcos,” which is based on the life of Pablo Escobar. Henao was later released on bail, and as of my knowledge cutoff in 2023, the legal proceedings and outcomes of these charges have not been widely publicized. Henao has also published a book about her life with Escobar, providing insight into their relationship and the challenges she faced before and after his death.
