Jessica Russo, played by Sarah Shahi, was introduced in the first season of “The Rookie” as a love interest for the main character, John Nolan. She was an undercover FBI agent who eventually started a relationship with Nolan. However, in season 2, their relationship faced challenges, and they decided to break up. Later in the season, during a confrontation with a criminal, Jessica was shot. She survived the shooting but decided to leave Los Angeles to take a job offer in Washington, D.C., thus exiting the show. Her departure was a way to close her storyline and focus on Nolan’s development without their romantic involvement. Jessica’s character was written out of the series, and she has not returned since.
