Clyde the orangutan, known for his role in the Clint Eastwood movie “Every Which Way But Loose,” passed away in 1989 due to a cerebral hemorrhage.
Clyde was an orangutan actor who became famous after appearing alongside Clint Eastwood in the 1978 action-comedy film “Every Which Way But Loose” and its 1980 sequel “Any Which Way You Can.” In these movies, Clyde played the role of Eastwood’s sidekick, an orangutan named “Clyde.” His amusing antics and the unique bond he shared with Eastwood’s character, Philo Beddoe, made him a beloved figure among moviegoers.
After his success in Hollywood, Clyde continued to live with his trainer, Boone Narr. Unfortunately, Clyde’s life came to an early end when he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in 1989. He was only about 17 years old at the time of his death, which is relatively young for an orangutan, as they can live into their 30s and 40s in captivity. His death saddened many fans and highlighted the challenges of using wild animals in entertainment, including their susceptibility to stress and health issues outside their natural habitat.
