Zack Greinke remains an active professional baseball pitcher. As of my last update, he had re-signed with the Kansas City Royals for the 2023 season.
Zack Greinke, who began his Major League Baseball (MLB) career with the Kansas City Royals in 2004, has had a distinguished career, winning several awards including the Cy Young Award in 2009. After his initial stint with the Royals, he played for several other teams, including the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Houston Astros.
Greinke is known for his exceptional pitching skills, versatility, and ability to control the game. Over the years, he has been selected for multiple All-Star Games and has earned Gold Glove Awards for his defensive play. His performance has seen some natural fluctuation due to age and the normal wear and tear that comes with a long career in professional sports.
In 2021, while with the Houston Astros, Greinke’s performance was solid, although his statistics indicated a slight decline compared to his peak years. Following the 2021 season, he became a free agent and later signed a contract to return to the Kansas City Royals for the 2022 season. His return to Kansas City was a sort of homecoming, as it was the team where he began his MLB career.
During the 2022 season with the Royals, Greinke provided veteran leadership to a young pitching staff and continued to contribute on the mound. Despite not being the overpowering pitcher he once was, his experience and pitching intelligence allowed him to remain effective.
Heading into the 2023 season, Greinke’s role with the Royals is expected to be similar, offering guidance to younger players while still taking the mound every fifth day as part of the team’s starting rotation. His presence on the team is valued not just for his on-field performance but also for the intangible benefits of having a seasoned veteran and former Cy Young winner in the clubhouse.
