Wilhelmina Slater’s baby, William, was actually her surrogate’s child with her sperm donor. Later, the baby was taken away by the surrogate, Christina McKinney, who was led to believe it was her own child with her husband.
In the TV show “Ugly Betty,” Wilhelmina Slater, played by Vanessa Williams, desperately wants a child to secure her position in the Meade family. She manipulates her way into using Christina McKinney, played by Ashley Jensen, as a surrogate. The initial plan was for the baby to be genetically Wilhelmina’s, using her egg and a sperm donor. However, due to a mix-up, the sperm donor ended up being Christina’s husband, Stuart, making the baby biologically Christina’s and Stuart’s.
Throughout the series, there are several twists and turns involving the baby. After the birth, Wilhelmina names the baby William, after herself, and tries to raise him as her own. However, Christina becomes suspicious and eventually learns the truth about the baby’s paternity. This revelation leads to a custody battle between Wilhelmina and Christina.
In the end, Christina decides to leave New York and return to Scotland with the baby and her husband, Stuart, after Wilhelmina realizes that she has grown to love the child and wants what’s best for him. Wilhelmina’s attachment to William shows a softer side to her otherwise tough and scheming character, and she ultimately makes the selfless decision to let him go with his biological parents.
