Vee, a character in “Orange Is the New Black,” dies at the end of season two when she is hit by a van driven by Rosa.
Vee, portrayed by Lorraine Toussaint, is introduced in the second season as a manipulative and ruthless inmate who has a history with several of the other characters, including Taystee and Red. Throughout the season, Vee establishes a drug trade within the prison and recruits several inmates to her side, creating tension and conflict with other inmates.
Her backstory reveals a complex relationship with Taystee, whom she had taken under her wing in the past, only to exploit her for her own gains. Vee’s actions lead to various confrontations, particularly with Red, whom she sees as competition in her control over the prison’s black market.
As the season progresses, Vee’s manipulations and the power she holds over her followers begin to unravel. Her true nature is exposed, and she becomes increasingly isolated. In the season finale, after a failed attempt to kill Red and realizing that her power in the prison has diminished, Vee escapes through a tunnel during a storm.
However, her freedom is short-lived. As she walks along the road, she is struck by a van driven by Rosa, another inmate who has just escaped from the prison after learning she has only weeks to live. Rosa, seizing the opportunity to feel alive one last time, hits Vee intentionally, leaving her dead on the side of the road, thus bringing Vee’s story arc to a dramatic and definitive end.
