Sniff ‘n’ the Tears went through several hiatuses and lineup changes but continued to make music with the core member, Paul Roberts, leading the band.
Formed in the mid-1970s, Sniff ‘n’ the Tears is a British rock band best known for their 1978 hit song “Driver’s Seat.” After the initial success of their debut album “Fickle Heart,” which featured this hit, the band struggled to maintain their momentum. Despite releasing several more albums in the early 1980s, they failed to replicate their earlier success and eventually disbanded in 1983.
The band’s lead singer and main songwriter, Paul Roberts, pursued a solo career and also focused on his work as a painter. However, the story of Sniff ‘n’ the Tears didn’t end there. In 1991, the band reformed with a new lineup for the album “No Damage Done,” and since then, they have continued to record and release new music intermittently.
Throughout the years, the band has seen many members come and go, with Roberts being the consistent driving force. Their later albums include “Underground” (2001), “Downstream” (2011), and “Random Elements” (2018). While they never recaptured the commercial success of their early years, Sniff ‘n’ the Tears have maintained a dedicated fan base and continue to contribute to the rock music scene with their distinctive blend of rock, pop, and blues influences.
