Shane Ross left Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital to work with Cristina Yang in Zurich.
Shane Ross, portrayed by actor Gaius Charles, was a surgical resident at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. His character was introduced in the ninth season of “Grey’s Anatomy” as part of a new group of interns. Over time, Shane showed himself to be ambitious and eager to succeed, though his overzealous nature sometimes led to trouble.
His most significant storyline involved his relationship with Cristina Yang, a cardiothoracic surgeon. Shane admired Cristina and sought to learn as much as possible from her. This mentor-mentee relationship eventually evolved, and they became romantically involved for a short period.
As Cristina Yang, played by Sandra Oh, prepared to leave for Zurich to take over Preston Burke’s facility, Shane decided to follow her. His decision was influenced by his desire to continue learning from one of the best surgeons and to further his career. In the season 10 finale, Shane is seen leaving with Cristina to pursue this new opportunity, effectively writing him out of the show. This marked the end of Gaius Charles’s regular appearance on “Grey’s Anatomy,” as his character moved on to the next phase of his medical career.
