Lion El’Jonson, the Primarch of the Dark Angels, is currently in a state of deep hibernation beneath the Rock, the fortress-monastery of his chapter.
Lion El’Jonson, one of the twenty Primarchs created by the Emperor of Mankind, was the leader of the Dark Angels Space Marine Legion during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy. After a brutal confrontation with his traitorous second-in-command, Luther, at the end of the Heresy, the Primarch was gravely wounded. In the aftermath, his body was discovered by the Watchers in the Dark, enigmatic beings associated with the Dark Angels. They carried him to a secret chamber deep within the Rock, the remnants of his homeworld of Caliban that now serves as the mobile base of the Dark Angels.
Within this chamber, Lion El’Jonson lies in a state of suspended animation, neither dead nor truly alive. It is said that he is healing, his wounds mending over the millennia due to his superhuman physiology and possibly some unknown technology or intervention by the Watchers in the Dark. The Dark Angels believe that he will awaken at the Chapter’s greatest hour of need, fully restored and ready to lead them once again.
The existence of the Primarch is a closely guarded secret known only to the highest-ranking members of the Dark Angels and their successor chapters, collectively known as the Unforgiven. This secret is protected at all costs, and the Dark Angels go to great lengths to hunt down the Fallen, those members of their Legion who turned traitor alongside Luther during the Heresy, in hopes of absolving their shame before their Primarch’s eventual return.
