James Ellsworth has continued to make appearances on the independent wrestling circuit after his multiple stints with WWE.
James Ellsworth, whose real name is James Morris, gained prominence in the wrestling world for his time in WWE, where he became known for his underdog persona and his unlikely victories. After his initial appearance on WWE television in 2016, where he was quickly defeated by Braun Strowman, Ellsworth became a fan favorite due to his unique look and everyman character. This popularity led to a more substantial role on WWE programming, including a storyline with AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose.
Ellsworth’s time in WWE was marked by several memorable moments, including his participation in the first-ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, where he controversially assisted Carmella in winning the match. However, his tenure with WWE came to an end when he was released from his contract in November 2017.
Following his release, Ellsworth returned to the independent wrestling scene, where he had spent the majority of his career before joining WWE. He has wrestled for various independent promotions around the world and has also made appearances in Impact Wrestling.
In addition to his in-ring activities, Ellsworth has faced controversy outside of the ring. In 2018, he was accused of sending inappropriate messages to a minor, which he denied. The situation led to some independent promotions canceling his bookings, although he continued to maintain his innocence and no charges were filed.
Despite the controversy, Ellsworth has remained active in professional wrestling, often leveraging his WWE fame to secure bookings on the independent circuit. He also interacts with fans through social media and personal appearances. As of my knowledge cutoff in 2023, James Ellsworth has not returned to WWE but continues to be a part of the wrestling industry in various capacities.
