Gilly the Kid’s son, Sam, was taken in by Jon Snow and raised at Castle Black as his own.
In the “Game of Thrones” series, Gilly is one of the Free Folk, and her son, whom she names Sam after Samwell Tarly, is actually her half-brother, fathered by Craster, a wildling who sacrifices his sons to the White Walkers. Gilly escapes Craster’s Keep with Samwell Tarly, and they take the baby with them to Castle Black, where Samwell pledges to take care of Gilly and her son.
Over time, Samwell Tarly grows very fond of Gilly and her son, and when he decides to go to the Citadel to train as a maester, he takes them with him. He claims Gilly’s son as his own to protect them from the stigma of being Craster’s offspring and to ensure that the boy is not harmed or sacrificed. Samwell’s deep affection for Gilly and her son leads to a bond that resembles a family unit, and he becomes a father figure to the child. Throughout the series, their relationship evolves, and they face various challenges together, but Sam’s commitment to Gilly and her son remains steadfast.
