Epic Rap Battles of History (ERB) went on a hiatus but returned with new episodes. The creators, Nice Peter and EpicLLOYD, continue to produce new content for the series.
Epic Rap Battles of History is a YouTube web series created by Peter Shukoff (Nice Peter) and Lloyd Ahlquist (EpicLLOYD). The series pits historical and pop culture figures against one another in a rap battle format. Since its inception in 2010, ERB has gained a substantial following and has become known for its creative matchups, impressive production values, and clever lyrics.
After the first half of Season 6 ended in 2018, ERB went on an extended break, leaving fans wondering about the future of the series. During this period, the creators took time to regroup and focus on other projects, as well as to recharge creatively. The hiatus also allowed them to explore new ways to fund the series independently, as they had previously been partnered with the multi-channel network Maker Studios, which was acquired by Disney.
In 2019, ERB returned with the second half of Season 6, much to the delight of their fans. The creators launched a Patreon campaign to help fund the series, allowing them to maintain creative control and produce content at their own pace without the constraints of a network. Since then, ERB has continued to release new episodes, featuring battles such as “The Joker vs Pennywise,” “Thanos vs J. Robert Oppenheimer,” and “Harry Potter vs Luke Skywalker.”
The series has continued to evolve, with Nice Peter and EpicLLOYD taking fan suggestions into account and experimenting with different types of characters and themes. Despite the challenges of producing a high-quality web series independently, ERB has managed to maintain its popularity and relevance within the YouTube community, and it continues to be a beloved series for fans of rap battles and creative historical and pop culture content.
