Brian Williams, who later changed his name to Bison Dele, tragically disappeared at sea in 2002. It is believed that he was murdered by his older brother while sailing in the South Pacific.
Brian Williams, born on April 6, 1969, was a professional NBA player known for his time with teams like the Orlando Magic, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Chicago Bulls, and Detroit Pistons. After winning an NBA championship with the Bulls in 1997, he played his final season with the Pistons in 1999.
In 2001, Williams changed his name to Bison Dele to honor his Native American and African heritage. A year later, he embarked on a sailing trip in the South Pacific with his girlfriend, Serena Karlan, his brother, Kevin Williams (who later changed his name to Miles Dabord), and the boat’s captain, Bertrand Saldo.
In July 2002, Dele, Karlan, and Saldo went missing. The investigation into their disappearance led to the conclusion that they were likely killed by Dele’s brother, Miles Dabord. Dabord was the only person known to have returned from the voyage, and he was later found in Mexico with the boat and had attempted to use Dele’s passport and checks. Before he could be apprehended by the authorities, Dabord overdosed on insulin and slipped into a coma, which led to his death, taking the true story of what happened on the boat to his grave.
The loss of Bison Dele remains one of the most mysterious and tragic stories in the sports world, as the exact details of the events leading to the deaths of Dele, Karlan, and Saldo have never been fully uncovered.
