Brad Kaaya is no longer playing in the NFL and has transitioned into a career in coaching.
After a promising college career as the quarterback for the University of Miami, Brad Kaaya entered the NFL Draft in 2017. He was selected in the sixth round by the Detroit Lions but did not manage to secure a long-term position with the team. Kaaya bounced around a few NFL teams, including the Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts, mostly on practice squads and never saw regular-season action in an official game.
Following his brief stint in the NFL, Kaaya decided to shift his focus from playing to coaching. He returned to his alma mater, the University of Miami, to begin his coaching career. In 2020, he was brought on as a coaching intern for the Hurricanes, working under head coach Manny Diaz. His role involved analyzing game film and helping with the development of quarterbacks, leveraging his experience as a former player to mentor current athletes.
Kaaya’s transition from player to coach is not uncommon among former athletes, as many find that coaching allows them to stay connected to the sport they love while imparting their knowledge and experience to a new generation of players. His understanding of the game and the quarterback position, in particular, positions him well to contribute to the development of young talent in the collegiate ranks.
