Alex Anderson passed away.
Alex Anderson was an American cartoonist and the creator of the characters Rocky the Flying Squirrel and Bullwinkle J. Moose, among others. He was born on September 5, 1920, in Berkeley, California. Anderson worked in animation and was a pioneer in the early days of television cartoons. He was the nephew of Paul Terry, the creator of Terrytoons, which produced cartoons such as Mighty Mouse and Heckle and Jeckle.
Anderson’s most famous creation, “The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show,” was co-produced with his childhood friend Jay Ward. The show first aired in 1959 and became a significant part of American pop culture, known for its humor, satire, and appeal to both children and adults. Despite the success of his characters, Anderson did not remain in the animation industry for long. He left the business to focus on a career in advertising.
Later in life, Anderson was involved in a legal dispute over the rights to the characters he helped create. He felt he had not received the recognition or financial compensation he deserved for his contributions. The case was eventually settled out of court.
Alex Anderson died on October 22, 2010, at the age of 90. His legacy lives on through the enduring popularity of the characters he helped bring to life, and he is remembered as an influential figure in the history of animation.
