Marcus Stamm, a Swiss teacher, disappeared in 1985 during a trek in the Amazon with Yossi Ghinsberg and Kevin Gale. Despite extensive searches, his fate remains unknown.
In 1985, Marcus Stamm, along with Israeli adventurer Yossi Ghinsberg, American photographer Kevin Gale, and Austrian geologist Karl Ruprechter, embarked on an expedition into the uncharted Amazon rainforest. Ruprechter, who claimed to have knowledge of gold in the area, led the group. However, the journey quickly turned perilous due to harsh conditions and a lack of supplies.
The group eventually split up, with Ghinsberg and Stamm attempting to find help together. As they became increasingly weak and desperate, Stamm was last seen by Ghinsberg, who was later rescued. Stamm’s physical and mental condition had deteriorated significantly by that time, and he was unable to continue. Despite subsequent searches, no trace of Marcus Stamm was ever found, and his disappearance remains one of the many unsolved mysteries of the Amazon. The story of the group’s harrowing experience was later recounted in Ghinsberg’s book “Jungle,” which was also adapted into a film of the same name.
