It’s that time of year again – Christmas is only a few weeks away! Christmas trees are starting to brighten up store windows, and representations of Santa Claus and snowmen can be found all over the place.

If you haven’t put up your Christmas tree yet, your children are undoubtedly pressuring you to do so. And, given the year we’ve had, why not start early with some of our Christmas painting extra motivation?

We have a lot of suggestions for how you can make paintings and sketches, whether you’re just starting as an artist or are a seasoned pro.

We’ve come up with a few ideas that should encourage the whole family to make something attractive for the house, or even a sketch of a snowman to put on a homemade Christmas card and mail to a friend you probably wouldn’t be able to see this year.

Decorative paintings can help you turn plain walls into eye-catching pieces of art. They give a visually appealing focal point. Take a look at these simple Christmas painting ideas and use them to decorate your walls. This Christmas season, they’d bring a festive vibe and good cheer to your home.

If drawing is your thing, go ahead and do it!

If you choose to draw rather than paint, use brightly colored contrasting pens and colorful paper to create some stunning house decorations.

As a present for a friend, consider drawing a still life of Santa or a lovely shimmering night motif.

Then, as your confidence grows, try one of our simple Christmas painting ideas.

These paintings have always been enjoyable to create because they remind us of our younger years when we would explore for hours, entranced by their brilliance, the incredible sight of the Christmas tree, and the sense of Holiday lights sparkling into the darkness.

Top Easy Christmas Paintings

1. Golden Christmas Tree Canvas Painting

To get you started, here’s a simple canvas.

Create a watercolor painting of a golden Christmas tree against a light blue sky. The sky should be lighter behind the top half of the image and darker above the bottom, producing a pleasing contrast.

Before applying the blues, prime the canvas with white paint. Then add gold to make the stars and the tree’s highlighted regions.

You may go even further by decorating the tree with snowflakes and glitter.

I recommend using acrylic paints, although watercolors would also work, and then covering it with a layer of matte medium once it’s dried.

For snow, use refined sanding sugar or silver glitter glue if you don’t want too much shine.

Overall, the goal is to create a stunning night setting where the Christmas tree and the stars are the centers of attention.

2. Scene Of A Snowy Mountain Village

The possibility to build a winter wonderland exists in Frosty Village. White tempera or acrylic paints can paint houses, trees, and even people wearing green scarves around their necks.

Allow them to use various different hues for the skies, browns, and greens for the grasses and trees, black for outlines, and yellow hues for the window lights.

Children will love painting a variety of snowy Christmas sceneries on large scraps of paper or poster frames and then hanging them up as colorful artworks and Christmas interior decorating.

3. Paintings of Snowy Mountain Landscapes

You may paint a snowy winter landscape with pristine blue skies and a touch of Christmas magic by having Santa’s Reindeer carry him through into the night skies with acrylic paint.

Allow the kids to have some fun with this by painting fluffy white snow, ice-covered trees, and frozen lakes, followed by a splash of color with the show’s star, the lit-up Christmas tree.

And yet, this is painting, so have some fun with these canvas painting ideas and let your imaginations go wild.

4. A Christmas Tree Forest And A Sky Filled With Snow

Painting a panorama of Christmas trees set amid snow-covered hills is a fantastic Christmas painting concept. Dark greens for the trees, light purple or browns for the mountains, and various hues of white for the snow can all be used.

This is a lovely Christmas artwork that would work well in both watercolor and acrylic mediums.

Continue to enjoy yourself; an excellent piece of art does not have to be perfection.

5. Watercolor Christmas Card (Handmade)

This is unlike any of the previous painting concepts. White cards, watercolor paints or drawing pencils, and a large brush are necessary tools for this project.

By painting in watercolor, make thick strokes with little pressure. If you want a little more bling, sprinkle some glitter on top!

Don’t limit yourself to the Christmas tree as an example. A snowman, a mailbox, or a Christmas pudding would suffice. Have a good time and express yourself. Art is about making things, and Christmas painting is a great way to do just that.

6. In the Carpathian Mountains, there is a winter landscape.

Kids can create a scene depicting winter in the Carpathian Mountains, complete with a giant Christmas tree and lush green slopes.

Before going out into nature for ideas, the kids will need to put on thick coats and boots.

While they’re doing it, the kids might want to collect some pebbles to give away and paint, which is another painting option you shouldn’t pass up.

7. Christmas Canvas or Decoration with a Cute Reindeer

This animal-loving child will enjoy this Christmas painting project. They may build a Santa Claus ornament for the Christmas tree or paint a cute brown reindeer with a red nose and eyes on a white canvas.

It’ll look fantastic against the Christmas lights in the living room, bedroom, or playroom! Allow your child’s creativity to flourish this Christmas season with this creative painting idea that is free of mistakes.

8. Painting with Candy Canes

Candy canes are a wonderful Christmas painting idea that can be difficult to get off. Establishing features that reflect along the margins of the candy cane can be difficult, specifically when using watercolors.

Forming the pattern with a light pencil is a fantastic method to plan out all of the lines ahead of time so that the cane has an asymmetrical design. The candy cane’s crimson tint will hide almost all of the flaws in the finished item.

It’s more fun to maintain the white as a negative space rather than painting it with a light grey tint.

9. Painting of a Gingerbread Person

Another simple Christmas painting project for the kids is to make gingerbread men. They may then add all the bells and whistles that convert this dull little cookie into a living and breathing treatment with a little help from the body.

Beginner artists will enjoy painting gingerbread men because the shading and shapes are simple to achieve. To begin, simply select a broad brush and a light brown paint mixture. You may try freehanding the white area within the body if you want to add very little difficulty.

Wax resist sticks are the second alternative. These are uncolored crayons that, when applied to paper, create areas where the paint does not appear. They’re fun to have around since you can make some cool effects with them.

Ordinary crayons can also be used, even though they will produce a background color mostly on a sheet.

10. Painting of Ornamental Trees

Another fantastic opportunity to use your wax resist crayons is in the form of ornamental trees like this one! This will necessitate more forethought before you begin painting to ensure that the decorations are perfectly aligned. However, as you put paint to paper, you will be astounded at how quickly they begin to come to life.

Adding the thread to the bottom as the final step is always a great task. Using watercolors to maintain it thin and neat can be a matter of endurance.

I have used a size four watercolor brush for this project.

Ensure the paint below is completely dried before proceeding. You can use a blow dryer to swiftly impact the paper whenever you need to accelerate the process.

Fill the brush with paint and draw the line in a single stroke.

Use acrylic paint to break the rules a little.
