A Tragic Car Crash
Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota died in a car crash on July 3, 2025, in northwestern Spain. He was 28 years old.
His younger brother, André Silva, was also killed in the accident.
What Caused the Crash?
According to Spanish authorities, the brothers were traveling on the A 52 motorway when one of the car’s tires suffered a blowout while they were overtaking another vehicle.
The car left the road and caught fire. Both brothers died at the scene.
A Life Cut Short
Jota had recently celebrated one of the happiest moments of his life. Just weeks before the crash, he married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso.
The couple had three children together.
Remembering Diogo Jota
Diogo Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 and quickly became one of the club’s most important attackers. He also played a key role for Portugal, helping his country win major international matches.
Following his death, Liverpool, the Portuguese Football Federation, teammates, fans, and clubs around the world paid tribute to him. Many described him as not only an outstanding footballer but also a kind and humble person who will never be forgotten.
