Rockapella continues to perform and record music, with a lineup that has evolved over the years.
Rockapella, an American a cappella group, gained fame in the 1990s, particularly for their role on the PBS children’s game show “Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?” The group was formed in 1986 in New York City and originally consisted of Sean Altman, Elliott Kerman, Steve Keyes, and Barry Carl, with Jeff Thacher joining later as a vocal percussionist.
Over the years, Rockapella has seen several lineup changes. Founding member Sean Altman left the group in 1997 to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Kevin Wright. Other members have also come and gone, with the group maintaining a core presence in the a cappella music scene. As of my knowledge cutoff in 2023, the lineup includes Scott Leonard (high tenor), Jeff Thacher (vocal percussion), Calvin Jones (tenor), and Mitchell Rains (tenor), with Bryant Vance (bass).
Despite the changes, Rockapella has continued to produce music and tour. They have released numerous albums and maintain a dedicated fan base. Their music covers a wide range of genres, from pop and rock to jazz and R&B, all performed with their signature a cappella style. The group’s longevity and adaptability have allowed them to remain a fixture in the a cappella community, and they continue to showcase their vocal talents both in live performances and through their recordings.
