Ray Barnett, a character on “ER,” was hit by a truck in the 13th season and lost both of his legs.
Ray Barnett, played by actor Shane West, was introduced in the 11th season of “ER” as a medical student and later became a resident in the emergency room. His character was known for his love of music and his sometimes tumultuous relationship with Neela Rasgotra. In the 13th season, specifically in the episode titled “The Honeymoon is Over,” Ray’s life takes a tragic turn when, after a heated argument with Neela at a bar, he drunkenly walks out into the street and is struck by a truck. The accident results in the amputation of both of his legs below the knees.
After his accident, Ray is sent to a rehabilitation facility in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, closer to his family. He makes a return appearance in the 15th and final season of “ER,” where it is shown that he has adapted to his new life. He uses prosthetics and has become a rehab counselor, helping others who have suffered similar traumatic injuries. His return also provides closure to his relationship with Neela, as they reconcile and acknowledge the deep bond they share.
