Rachel Crawford, portrayed by Telma Hopkins, is a character on the sitcom “Family Matters.” She is the sister of Harriette Winslow and initially moves in with the Winslow family after the death of her husband. Rachel is also the mother of Richie Crawford. As the series progresses, her character decides to move to Detroit to open and run her own restaurant, which is a dream she had been nurturing. This move was a way to write her out of the show, although she made occasional appearances afterward. Her departure allowed the show to focus more on the Winslow family and the character Steve Urkel, who had become a breakout character.
