Miklo ends up in prison and loses his leg after a violent altercation.
In the film “Blood In, Blood Out” (also known as “Bound by Honor”), Miklo Velka, played by Damian Chapa, is a young man of Mexican and white American descent who is desperate to belong to the gang culture of his Mexican relatives. Throughout the movie, Miklo becomes deeply involved with the “Vatos Locos” gang and is eventually sent to San Quentin prison after being involved in a gang-related murder.
While in prison, Miklo’s journey becomes even more tumultuous. He seeks respect and power within the prison gang known as “La Onda.” His quest for influence leads to various conflicts and power struggles within the prison walls. During one of the violent encounters, Miklo is severely injured, resulting in the amputation of his leg. Despite this setback, he continues to rise through the ranks of the prison gang.
Miklo’s story is a tragic one, as it reflects the cycle of violence and the harsh realities of gang life and the criminal justice system. His character’s arc is a central element of the film, which explores themes of identity, family, and loyalty. The film ends with Miklo still in prison, having fully embraced his identity as a member of La Onda, but at great personal cost.
