Marlin’s wife, Coral, was killed by a barracuda along with their eggs, except for one that survived, Nemo.
In the Pixar animated film “Finding Nemo,” Marlin is a clownfish who lives happily with his wife, Coral, in the Great Barrier Reef. They are excited about the imminent hatching of their many eggs. However, tragedy strikes when a barracuda attacks their home. Marlin tries to fend off the predator, but he is knocked unconscious and wakes up to find Coral and all but one of their eggs gone. The sole surviving egg, which Marlin finds and names Nemo, has a damaged fin, a result of the attack. This traumatic event profoundly affects Marlin, making him extremely protective of Nemo, which sets the stage for the film’s story about love, loss, and the lengths a parent will go to for their child.
