Hector Perez Jr. was the son of the famous salsa singer Hector Lavoe and his wife Nilda Perez. Tragically, Tito’s life was marked by a series of personal challenges and misfortunes. In 1987, at the age of 17, he accidentally shot himself while playing with a gun. The incident left him with severe injuries that required multiple surgeries and long-term medical care.
Despite the efforts to save his life and improve his condition, Tito struggled with both physical and mental health issues following the accident. His injury led to complications that ultimately proved fatal. He passed away six years after the shooting, in 1993, at the young age of 24.
