GET TV, an American digital multicast television network owned by Sony Pictures Television, ceased operations on December 29, 2021. It was replaced by the Grit television network.
Launched on April 22, 2014, GET TV was initially dedicated to showcasing classic films, but it later expanded its content to include classic television series. As a digital multicast network, GET TV was available through the digital subchannels of television stations across the United States, primarily those owned by Univision Communications.
Over the years, GET TV built a loyal viewership with its programming that included a mix of classic movies from the 1930s through the 1960s, as well as some classic TV shows. The network’s library featured films from the Sony Pictures Entertainment catalog, including many from the Columbia Pictures archives.
Despite its niche appeal, GET TV faced challenges common to digital multicast networks, such as market saturation and competition for viewership with other similar networks. Additionally, the evolving media landscape, with the rise of streaming services and on-demand content, put pressure on traditional broadcast networks.
In late 2021, Sony Pictures Television decided to reorganize its television networks. As part of this reorganization, GET TV was discontinued on December 29, 2021. Its channel space was taken over by Grit, another digital multicast network that focuses on action and western-themed programming. Grit is targeted primarily at a male audience and is also owned by Sony Pictures Television, which continues to operate several other digital multicast networks, including Cine Sony and Sony Movies.
