Fred, the original guardian angel in “Drop Dead Diva,” was sent back to heaven after inadvertently revealing himself to Stacy, Jane’s best friend. Later, he returns to Earth with no memory of his previous life or his time as a guardian angel.
In the show, Fred starts as Jane Bingum’s guardian angel, but due to his feelings for Stacy, he breaks the rules of heaven by revealing his true identity to her. As a consequence, he is forced to return to heaven, leaving the characters and viewers saddened by his departure.
However, Fred’s story doesn’t end there. He comes back to Earth in a new human body as Luke Daniels, with no recollection of his past or his role as a guardian angel. This allows him to interact with the main characters again, but without the history and relationships he previously had. His return introduces new dynamics and challenges as he navigates his human life without the knowledge of his divine origins.
